At the National Trust, we renew civic life by rebuilding local news. Our 70-plus local news brands are cornerstones of the communities they serve.

As a founding partner of the inaugural Local News Day – a nationwide effort

to reconnect communities with trusted local news sources – we’re proud to celebrate the impact of local news and its foundational role in civic engagement and democracy across our state trusts:

Maine

In recognition of Local News Day, and as a thank-you to readers, the Maine

Trust for Local News will enable free access to all stories on PressHerald.com, CentralMaine.com and SunJournal.com on Thursday, April 9.

Community reporters will also spend time at local coffee shops, inviting community members to come for free coffee and a chat.  A full schedule is available at www.PressHerald.com/LocalNewsDay.

“As we expand our coverage to more communities, Local News Day marks a great occasion to engage with readers and prospective subscribers and elevate the high-quality journalism our talented staff produce every day,” said Stefanie Manning, president & publisher of the Maine Trust for Local News.

Georgia

In middle Georgia, where the Georgia Trust for Local News manages 20 titles, journalists from The Macon Melody and The Courier Herald in Dublin will host Facebook Live events, inviting people from the community to learn more about the publications, talk about local issues or simply get to know the people covering their communities.

Those live sessions will be held April 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“We’re pulling back the curtain and inviting people to come with their questions and opinions to talk about the issues that matter most to Macon and Dublin,” said Joshua Wilson, executive editor, The Macon Melody. “Ultimately, we hope to drive awareness and build connections with readers who are willing to say, ‘This matters. I’m in.’”
